I remember taking this photograph a couple of Decembers ago on the eastern side of the Big Island around sunset. I marveled at how the evening light helped define the structure of this amazing-looking cloud that was drifting in from the ocean. Our neighbors warned us about winter storms and that this evening might get interesting. It did.
Around midnight this huge storm rolled in complete with gale-force winds and lightning that struck every two seconds I swear. Blew open the windows in the old cottage my wife and I stated at and thoroughly drenched the inside of the place.
So if you don’t think Hawaii can have an old-fashioned Texas-style severe thunderstorm-think again.
